About Us
Our home at 2072 Tallulah Road and the apartments for The Steel Horse Stable.
The Steel Horse Stable came about when my mother and I looked around at all the beauty of our home in Robbinsville, North Carolina, and decided to share it with people like you. Located at 2072 Tallualah Road, this property has been in our family for more than 150 years. The beautiful main granite home was built by my grandparents, Wilson and Amanda Blankenship, and is where they raised their four children. It is also where I have many happy memories during the holidays and summers when I was growing up. As the years have passed, my grandparents added additional apartments and garages to accommodate the children and their families, and guests when they came to stay. Now my family's property has been passed to my generation.
My mother and I have decided to share the apartments with people who come to spend their vacations in Graham County and Western North Carolina, especially those who ride "steel horses" that need a stable!
The Steel Horse Stable apartments are conveniently located on US 129 just two miles south of downtown Robbinsville. We are within 15 miles of Cherohala Skyway and Nantahala Gorge. The "Tail of the Dragon" at Deals Gap is only 25 miles away and we are about 35 miles away from Cherokee and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Here in beautiful Graham County, families can enjoy fishing, boating and swimming in Fontana Lake and Lake Santeetlah. Some come to play in the water at Slickrock Creek and the Cheoah River. Many also come to explore by hiking on over 40 trails in Nantahala National Forest and Joyce Kilmer National Forest, a designated wilderness area.
There are hundreds of thousands of acres in the county filled with wilderness areas and stunning landscapes. Vacationers take home wonderful memories and beautiful pictures of the Great Smokey Mountains.
We hope to see you soon at the Steel Horse Stables in the quaint little town of Robbinsville. While you're here, be sure to visit Chief Junaluska's Grave. The Chief of the Cherokee Nation during the Trail of Tears, he became a national hero when he saved Andrew Jackson's life at the battle of Horse Shoe Bend. His grave, along with that of his wife, Nicie, and his dog, can be found right in the town. Local legend has it that if you walk around his grave three times and ask him what he's doing. He'll say, "Nothing at all."
Since this is our first year offering our apartments to you, we welcome any suggestions you may have or commits. We are currently working on many projects on our land as you will find each year you come to see us again.
